It really pisses me off when people clutter up build threads by posting things such as:

"In"

"im in!"

"Hnnnnnggggggg! Sub'd"

"Sub'd"

"Subscribed"

"Awwwwww yiss"

The first 3 pages of any build thread that will involve some "legit work" are always full of these pointless posts. Do people not know that on pretty much all message boards you can subscribe to a thread without posting in it?

Eh, it's also a way to show enthusiasm to the builder. Especially if they are doing something off-the wall.

It's not for a personal build thread. I had opened up a couple build threads today that were 20+ pages long and after looking at the first couple pages was like.. effff that and closed them. I knew that there was probably 5 pages worth of good material scattered through those 20+ pages but not worth skimming through all of those pages to find.

I'm not going to point fingers. It's no thread in particular, just any thread where the project is to do some crazy engine swap, or building something that will require plenty of thought, skilled fabrication and machining. The thread will be inundated with initially with these pointless posts, and then when the impatient followers who require instant satisfaction don't realize that these types of projects take time (and that most people aren't doing these builds for a living) will post "Updates?!?!?!?!" every couple weeks like a junkie looking for a fix.

Yeah, definitely. 10 pages of two-word posts... Almost as bad as scrolling though OPPO some days - ha! I was thinking you'd started a build thread and gotten a lot of these responses.

Sub'd.

The thing that grinds my gears about forums are the ones where you can only see the pictures if you are a member. Also when the picture links are all dead because they link to a closed Photobucket account. And the ones that are left are 640x480 and 0.2 megapixels.

I hear you, forums need to make a way to just show the Original posters comments in a thread, so you can actually see the shit you want to.

The posters are simply showing their support for the project. Just about as good as a "Nice!". Truth be told, I prefer that kind of comment to the ones (not necessarily with anything approaching correct syntax or spelling) that basically attack the OP and "explain" why he he shouldn't have done what he did without actually providing any real explanation beyond a friend-of-a-cousin-of-a-friend's-cousin's-in-law's anecdote of an idiotically botched attempt by a moron... I always end up a couple hundred words in before realizing I've wasted my time and that the block of text has no value to anyone or anything. At least if there's only a couple words you can take the whole thing in in under a second and just keep scrolling on by.

I've mostly given up on the larger forums because of the above two kinds of posts. That and the frustration of trolls, people who don't know how to deal with trolls, and the firestorms that ensue.

At the end of the day, those good ol' forums as a platform are still superior to Kinja. :]
